"If I were the boss. . ."

Is a phrase that we all talk about or think of when we are upset or unsatisfied with how other bosses run their businesses. We are often quick to judge how bosses handle their businesses. We do not think of how hard it could be for them to manage the business, the staff and the difficult customers they may get. We also tend to forget the years of experience it takes to run a business or the fact that those bosses may have studied to be what they are today.

I do understand that some bosses are pricks or they treat their staff unfairly but I would think that the majority do the opposite. I would think that now and then you should cut the bosses some slack because they may just be having a bad day. That day may be the one you witnessed that they are a bad boss.

I cannot help but to think that all bosses would be great if they treated their staff with respect and dignity, that they would be able to receive respect back from their staff. With a favourable friendly working environment, staff and bosses will be able to be more productive at the end of the day.

Time

Is time essentially what makes the world go round? Is it time that makes us ‘tick’. Let us think about how important time really is to us. We all have an issue now and then with time for some reason, for instance, ever notice how everyone always complains about how they do not have enough time and then sometimes they complain how time is taking forever to go by?
I can say that time is pretty important to me, emphasis on good times and bad times, these are both important times when it comes to memories. When I think of good times I have had, I smile.  When I think of the bad times, I think not of how bad it was but of the lesson learnt at that time. I should add that there are more examples time, for example; exam-time, lunch-time, bath-time, sexy-time, time to eat, time to pray and so on, but we all have different stories to tell about them.
Now think if there was not a thing like ‘time’. Would we ever be late? Would we always be on time? Would time fly by when you are having fun? Would we have time for each other? Would we still think life is to short? Would we even know the time of day if we did not rely on sunrise or the sunset? This all could lead to a lengthy debate with different opinions but in the end, would we have time to listen to all of them?

Two people came out of a building into a story.

These two people did not know that they would become famous for writing a story they witnessed that day. We all know the summarised story called Goldilocks and The Three Bears, but this is what the two people who came out of a building and into a story actually wrote:
One day three bears made some porridge but it was too hot to eat, so they decided to go for a walk. Goldilocks saw them leave the house and decided to break in and steal from the bears. As she entered she saw three bowls of porridge, she tried the first bowl which was too hot, she tried the second which was too cold and then tried the last bowl and that was just right and ate it all. The two people witnessed this through the window of the house.
The two people followed Goldilocks into the house and upstairs where she found three rocking chairs. She sat on the first, which was too hard, the second and that was too soft, then she tried the third, which was just right. By now the two people who walked out of a building and into a story noticed that Goldilocks was very tired and a bit on the lazy side of life. Goldilocks still did not notice that the two people were following her.
Goldilocks then went to the bedroom the three bears slept in, shortly followed by the two people. She tried the biggest bed, which was too hard, she tried the medium which was too soft, then she tried the smallest bed, which was just right and she immediately fell asleep. The two people learnt something about Goldilocks; she was a very picky person.
The three bears suddenly came back and the two people managed to escape out the window onto a tree. The bears noticed someone had been eating their porridge, they went upstairs and saw someone someone was sitting in their chairs. Then they go to their beds and see someone has been sleeping in their beds, and little bear sees Goldilocks sleeping in his bed.
By this time the bears were starving. Goldilocks woke up and the bears were standing over her with hungry eyes. The two people who came out of a building and into story witnessed how the three bears ate devoured. Today this story is sugar coated so that children do not get nightmares.

Do you like that feeling?

When you get home from tech and take your shoes off?
When you take your heels off after a long night out?
When take a cold shower on a really hot summers’ day?
When you have just completed an assessment and you’re happy with it?
When your tummy is so sore from laughing until you cry?
When you take your bra off after a long hard day?
When your cell phone goes off and there is a sms that you have money in your bank?
Of having the first ice cold beer that confirms its weekend?
When the sun hits your back on a cold winters’ day?
When you take a seat after standing most of the day?
When you get home after a good workout?
When you step onto a scale and notice you have lost weight?

Designer PR

What is designer PR?

Well if you understand what PR is then it should be pretty easy to then know what Designer PR is. PR is all about reputation, it is the result of what you do, what you say and what others say about you. It is used to gain trust and understanding between an organisation and its various publics.

And to be a designer is “a business professional who develops solutions to commercial needs that require the balancing of technical, commercial, human and aesthetic requirements” , to make things simple and more understandable when you put both meanings together to a meaning of Designer PR.

Now , you may wonder what Designer PR means to me? Well, to me it means that the PR professionals tailor-make PR programmes/activities to suit their client’s needs to gain trust and understanding between an organisation and its various publics to maintain a favourable reputation.

Short and sweet.

Table Mountain

As I was walking home the other day and I actually stopped to stare at table mountain, that’s when I thought to myself ‘how did come up with that name?’. As a Namibian I'm wondering, do Capetonians think the same? For me to better understand why or how “Table Mountain got its name, I have to break it down into two parts 1) Table and 2) Mountain for a bit of research.

Let us start off with ‘table’. . . .hmmm, I personally don’t think that the name Table Mountain fits because it does not look like a table and it does not have table legs, see what I am getting to? I can understand them just calling the mountain that because it is flat at the top like a table, yet would ‘Flat Mountain’ be a better name? I do not think so!

Now for a look at the word mountain . . . that is pretty straight forward, because Table Mountain is in fact a mountain. Table Mountain is also known as plateau, but image it was called able Plateau Mountain or Table Plateau . . . not so attractive hey?

Hey you . . .

How weird is it to have someone walk up to you and greets you by your name and when it is your turn to greet you do not know his/her name and all you say is “Hey you”. Have you experienced that? You probably have, I know I have plenty of times before.
Ok, so there you are, wondering who or where you may have met this person and then he/she says “Do you not remember me?.” At that moment I think to myself “Am I supposed to?.” I mean I see over 200 people a day, meet 2 to 3 individuals weekly (excluding when you at a bar and everyone is tipsy). You then apologize, ask the stranger his/her name (to see if it may ring a bell), where and when you may have met and so on.
“Hey you” is a phrase I have used before as a joke, lol, and this is how. While at a busy mall with a friend, she saw a guy she knows from college, she told me what his name is and with a straight face I walked over to him and said “Hey Julian”. There was a moment of silence, knowing that we both have never met before, he responds by saying “Hey you”. Classic!!!

I am. . .

I am . . . not an author
Most of us are not authors or writers but as Btech Public Relations Management students we are supposed to be able to put words together, form sentences and structure paragraphs for people to read. I am not an author but I am able to write ‘stories’ or even write about  certain topic, does that make me a writer?
I am not an author but I think I may just be a writer, yet what is the difference? Is it what you write about? Is it how much you write? Or is it whether you get money for what you write? To me this is vague to say what the difference is or maybe I do not fully understand the two.
I am not an author and never particularly enjoyed writing, but sit me down, give me a topic and time and I will write it for you. Am I lazy? I would not say so. Do I lack inspiration or creativity? Maybe, but it never killed anyone for not having any of those. I am not an author but what I can admit to is that I actually enjoyed writing this.
